In the craziness of this year, I haven’t had nearly as much time or energy to get writing done. I failed on the National Novel Writing Month challenge, and my personal challenge with co-Eloner Sam at InMeadbriated (15 short stories in 15 weeks). That doesn’t mean my creative wheels have stopped rolling. Here are four characters that you’ll hopefully get to meet soon.
Eleanor “Ellie” James
Ellie has one goal in life: make it to Paris. in her late twenties, she’s been saving for nearly ten years. Working for the Post Office, Ellie loves when new families move onto her route and the surprise when they discover their post man isn’t what they expect.
Living in Hampton, Virginia, Ellie hears tales from the Navy boys of all the places they have been. Last night, she dreamt in French for the first time, and her determination to escape to un vie en France is stronger than ever.
Hill has just returned from Austria. The problems he was running from only followed him across the pond, and he can’t seem to get a break. His love of architecture drew him to Europe to try and connect with his grandfather. He soon found he liked photographing better than designing, but that hasn’t sat well with his family.
When his grandfather falls ill, he has one shot left to prove it’s the right path for him.
Daphne has come back to Charleston with her family for an end-of-summer visit with her parents. She’d left behind her love of sailing and the memories of addictive romance, and she has no intention of digging up the past on this relaxing, family vacation. But she runs into her high school boyfriend who drags their hurricane past into her delicately balanced life. Rejuvenated by the sea breezes and a day teaching her son how to sail, Daphne must decide what she’ll bring back to Raleigh with her.
This is my mystery character. While out and about yesterday he popped into my head, and the instinct to immediately write him down neglected to kick in. Trust me, it was something super cool too. Maybe he’ll come back to me between cocktails at dinner tonight after The Nutcracker.
Hopefully I can build some time into my schedule to write, I’ll add that to the top of my 2013 New Years resolutions.
