Today I am home in Washington, DC to celebrate the life of my high school friend Bliss. She was a firecracker. Full of sarcasm and the truest Michael Jackson fan you would ever meet. We used to argue over the merits of different boy bands from the 90s and come exam time she was always holed up in the Activity Center with Moulin Rouge.
Last year I lost my college friend Carey to Lymphona. Also too young, Carey had a fiery spirit and was always arguing against you to make you look at the world through all the angles. His ‘C is for Crunk’ t-shirt was a perfect beginning to many friendships.
No one would say that funerals are easy, especially for someone so young. And in the last year, I’ve certainly changed a lot and changed my outlook on life. So despite the circumstances, here are the three quotes that will help you get through anything:
Whatever is good for your soul – do that. Sometimes, you just have to do the things you need to do for yourself. Whatever that may be, make sure to take care of yourself first.
You can’t be sad when you’re holding a cupcake. I mean really? I think there’s enough said here.
The cure for anything is salt water – sweat, tears, or the sea. – Isak Dinesen. I have found this to be universally true. Though sometimes the sea is in short supply, Pinterest is usually pretty helpful with that.
I hope that no matter what life may throw at you, one of these may help. I recommend starting with the cupcakes, but that’s just me.
Hope you have a happy Wednesday.
