4th of July: Sparklers and Strawberries

jen darling

Happy fifth of July! Adam and I had an absolute blast at our friend Allison + Tyler’s barbecue yesterday. And oh boy did Daphne have fun too. She was dragging all morning!

Remember how I recommended to pick one easy recipe and one hard recipe if you were bringing something to a barbecue? Well I ended up going the easier route, and put together these yummy red white and blue fruit kebabs. Which were definitely more time intensive than they look!

Also, if anyone has recommendations for how to melt chocolate… Please email me!! These would have been just a touch more scrumptious if I could have gotten my Ghirardelli white chocolate more melted all over the place. But I did the best I could, so now I have something to keep trying!

Daphne was so excited to run around and play with some other puppies, as well as make lots of new friends. She only invited herself into two apartments, so I’m considering that a victory.

She also really enjoyed licking up around the grill. I’m just grateful she didn’t get burned!

We were super excited to make lots of cool new friends. Thanks Tyler for the photo bomb.

Finally we managed to get a nice one without him. And then Teresa decided to do this:

I didn’t ask questions, I just took the picture.

I was really glad I brought our Nikon D5100 with us. Not only could we get these gem group shots…

But we also got to take lots of sparkler photos!

It took us a while to get the camera set up properly. We ended up using a manual setting with a lower ISO of 100, reduced the exposure brightness, and increased or decreased the exposure time depending on the photo. We also changed the negative exposure compensation to -3.7 and the flash compensation to -1. Overall, I’m pretty happy with the results.

We figured out there were 7 of us… and 7 letters in ‘AMERICA.’ If that isn’t kismet I don’t know what is. Check out this awesomeness:

Oh wait, Hal can’t get his C right and Allison’s A is missing. ‘Merica works just as well. jen darling

But this is much better. I mean seriously, how amazing is this? We were super impressed and proud of ourselves for getting this. And Adam’s photography skills were pretty spot on too! jen darling

Then we played around with the few we had left. I was going for a different look… But playing with light is what you have to do to figure out what works and what doesn’t. jen darling jen darling

This one came out really well! And these were some of my favorites, but we’ll have to keep working on getting ‘us’ in focus! Thanks Allison for manning the camera so we could have these. Looks like we should buy some more sparklers babe!

We hope you all had a happy and safe holiday!

      Hey Kim!

Daphne is a Cocker Spaniel mixed with a Toy Poodle. We got her from a local breeder in the Philadelphia area called Ridgewood Kennels. If you want more information about her breed they are very helpful, you could certainly shoot them a note!

And thanks so much, Daphne is a total cutie and so sweet. She just wants to play with everything! Plus she’s hypo-allergenic and doesn’t shed (thanks to the Poodle part!) so she makes a great companion!

      Cheers!

    Great photos!

Try melting your chocolate in the oven. Heat the oven to 150 degrees. Once it is heated put your chocolate in and turn the heat off. In a few minutes your chocolate will be melted and smooth. You can also remelt the chocolate this way if it starts hardening again.

    Happy 4th of July!
