Four Eyes from Warby Parker

The other day I went to the eye doctor to get fitted for contacts. I decided it was worth looking at a new pair of glasses since Daphne had gotten a hold of my Ray Bans. After nearly falling for an expensive pair from Versace at LensCrafters, I decided to look around a little bit more to see what else I could find.

Warby Parker has been on my radar for the last few months as I’ve seen some of my favorite blogs write about them as they travel around the country in a school bus. Props to them for putting up with the mostly uncomfortable long yellow bus. They must really get along with their coworkers.

WP is one of the few online companies that offers a Home Try-On program where you can pick 5 pairs to try at home for 5 days completely free. Including return shipping. I picked out my pairs and they arrived in less than 48 hours. Awesome!

First let me say I love their packaging. The slick black box looks like you’d find it on the counter at an optical store. Second, who doesn’t love a note that says “GET EXCITED!” inside their order? The prep school girl in me appreciated it. Take a look at my pairs: jen darling by j.k.h. nelson jen darling by j.k.h. nelson

The first one I tried on was the Crane. This chic, lady-like frame is longer than my current pair and begs to be paired with a long strand of pearls (check, thanks Fipp!) and a fitted blazer. The Sugar Maple color is a nice complement to my super pale skin. jen darling by j.k.h. nelson jen darling by j.k.h. nelsonNext was the Thompson in Whiskey Tortoise. These frames are similar to the Ray Bans I already have, but much darker. I like the nice blunt edges on the hinge. As much as I am a whiskey girl, this is just a little dark for me.

These are the Fitz in Blonde Tortoise. I love this color. It’s unexpected and feels very on-trend without being overwhelming. Unfortunately this pair just didn’t sit on my face quite right. It’s entirely possible my face is just crooked, but I can’t commit to glasses that require getting my eyebrows completely removed and recreated. I’m not that high maintenance. Hopefully WP will come up with other frames in this yummy color. jen darling by j.k.h. nelson jen darling by j.k.h. nelson

Next was the Wiloughby in Striped Chestnut. These were one of my favorite pairs. This is just the right touch of boyfriend fit to balance out my super girly, I’m 26 and still wear bows style. These were definitely the best color option out of what the Wiloughby comes in. Plus, who wouldn’t want to call their glasses by a sexy British butler’s name? jen darling by j.k.h. nelson jen darling by j.k.h. nelson

My last pair was the Linwood in Violet Magnolia. I love the touch of purple to brighten up the turquoise and magnolia’s are pretty cool. It seemed like such a good idea. Again, a super on-trend color that WP definitely needs to make more of their frames in.  jen darling by j.k.h. nelson

So I think I’ve narrowed it down to the Crane and the Wiloughby (though trying on the Linwood again makes me wonder if I should have taken it out of the running). jen darling by j.k.h. nelson

Wiloughby? jen darling by j.k.h. nelson

Or Crane?

Then I had some fun using my Canon D5100 to practice with the focus, depth of field, and just generally getting different shots. jen darling by j.k.h. nelsonAnd then I started making goofy faces. Really I was just proud of setting up my camera on top of a phone book on a side table to get the best light and get photos without glare. Photo score 1 for me!

So, what do you think? The Crane or the Wiloughby? Should I give the Linwood a second chance?

Have you looked at glasses online? Have you tried Warby Parker?

Thanks for posting! I just bought the Fitz in blonde tortoise, but I wouldn’t have done home try-on of them if not for happening upon your pic in google images! Cheers!

So glad you tried! I love their glasses, though I haven’t actually ordered a pair yet. There are some new fall ones I want to try first! Hope you love them – send me a picture!!
