Shades of Purple: Fashion at Inauguration 2013

First Lady Michelle Obama was picture perfect in a custom made Thom Browne dress and coat. The men’s label is known for cropped pants and jackets, and picked a necktie pattern silk for Mrs. Obama’s outerwear. She finished with a touch of glam from a belt and shoes from J. Crew and a necklace by Cathy Waterman.

I love the shoes, but the lighting make the patent look a bit strange next to her stockings in some of the images. Don’t forget those gorgeous orchid leather gloves!

Underneath? A matching dress by Thom Browne and a cardigan by Reed Krakoff. Don’t worry Mr. President, you looked quite dapper yourself.

Dr. Jill Biden looked fresh and youthful in a metallic silk Lela Rose coat with a great side bow. She paired the coat with a Lela Rose frock, the White Embroidered scattered Flower appliqué Sheath dress.

Michelle and Beyoncé snuggled in for a hug and a great close-up of Michelle’s custom tie silk coat and Bey’s Lorraine Schwartz emeralds.

Jay-Z and Beyoncé‘ almost outshone their BFFs President Obama and First Lady Michelle. Beyoncé wowed in a Pucci dress, Christian Dior coat, and Lorraine Schwartz emeralds. Jay-Z was rocking a Tom Ford suit, and I love the piping on his scarf for a pop of sophistication.

Get a better look at this Pucci frock as Beyoncé singing the National Anthem.

Malia and Sasha Obama were darling in shades of purple to match mom’s orchid gloves. Malia rocked in a grape J.Crew coat and berry tights while Sasha’s indigo Kate Spade jacket hid a striped purple frock and statement necklace.

Kelly Clarkson also joined in Shades of Purple, singing My Country ‘Tis of Thee in a swinging maroon coat and vibrant purple scarf.

Eva Longoria broke the trend in a bubbly mauve leather coat from Bally’s resort 2013 collection and sleek black accessories.

Fashion Bomb: Katy Perry failed to impress in a striped coat from Rodarte’s fall 2012 collection. In some photos you can spot a black and orange lace dress poking out from the bottom, taking her strange fashion sense in a totally-not-cute direction this time. At least John Mayer looked dapper in a black coat, ice blue tie and black sunnies.

However, I’m not sure whose fedora I liked better: Katy’s or Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s.

Speaking of men’s fashion, I did love President Bill Clinton’s houndstooth scarf. And Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s blowout was pretty fabulous too.

What did Michelle wear to the Inaugural Ball, you might ask?

After commissioning 15 designer gowns, the First Lady chose favorite Jason Wu’s ruby red velvet and chiffon stunner. And I can’t blame her, it’s an amazing dress. Too bad she has to donate her pieces from today to the National Archives!
