When we got up to the Adirondacks, there was no wasting time. We arrived at Pinecrest, Nikki’s family lodge, just as her uncle’s birthday party began. And let me tell you was it a party. There was a great band playing all night, marshmallows over an open fire, delicious brisket, beer and dogs for miles. Daphne was in heaven and we finally started to unwind.
The next morning we joined her entire extended family for a hike to Tenderfoot. Part of John’s Brook, this part of the stream levels out in a few tiers where you can stretch out and swim.
It wasn’t easy getting there. Part of the trail had a bridge that washed out in a big storm over the winter, so we quickly found ourselves bouldering and climbing rocks bigger than either of us. After a near miss (at least on Adam and Daphne – the beer was lost) we finally made it.
Daphne had a blast exploring everywhere, running from one group to another. She had to be where the action was.
Another dog finally showed her how to cross the stream, and then she really was everywhere. We could barely keep our eyes on her hopping from one rock to another.
Isn’t is pretty?
Nikki’s brother Zander brought his girlfriend Stelsie. It took a while to get a cute shot of them.
A few brave fellas went down the natural water slide in the waterfall. Trust me when I say this mountain spring was cold and brisk and refreshingly cold.
On the way back, Nikki’s aunt (one of many!) led us down a much less treacherous path. I was happy to not have to climb over any more boulders.
The next day, we stopped by the Ausable Club (more on that in another post!) and then went swimming at Pinecrest.
Daphne was not happy being around the water. She was less happy when we made her go swimming.
But we enjoyed the water and some local craft brews immensely. I was very happy to start working on a lovely tan – for the first time all summer.
Photos getting cuter… I mean seriously guys.
We popped up to the lodge for dinner and met Nikki’s grandmother Kitty. A fellow Foxcroft alum, Kitty was quite a lady. She was joking around and having a great time.
Adam got a nap in this epic hammock before we tucked into another delicious dinner.
Where Daphne finally passed out in Adam’s lap. This was only Monday! Stay tuned for our trip into camp!
