[TALENT] Former U-S Secretary of State General Colin Powell will address the Elon community tomorrow. Powell is highlighting the spring convocation, which honors dean’s list and president’s list students, the Class of 2006, the faculty, and members of the Elon Society.
During the convocation ceremony, Powell will receive an honorary doctor of laws degree which recognizes academic achievement and philanthropy.
Powell served 35 years in the Army during which he was awarded several medals for distinguished service. Powell was also the National Security Advisor to President Reagan from 1987 to 1989 and chaired the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 1989 to 1993. Powell was Secretary of State from 2001 to 2005 under President George W. Bush. Powell has also received Presidential and Congressional medals in recognition of his commitment to community service.
There is a Q and A session at 3 P-M in Whitley auditorium. Convocation will be broadcast live to McCrary Theater and tickets are limited. Tickets are currently sold out for the convocation event.
