TheFireStore, the leading online source for firefighting professionals, responded to a call and delivered critical gear to a volunteer fire company devastated by a fire that consumed their building, apparatus, and gear. TheFireStore was on scene before the fire was cleaned up and delivered new gear less than 24 hours after the fire started.
Coatesville, PA (TheFireStore.com) June 5, 2012 – TheFireStore re-equipped an entire department devastated from a MVA and the resulting fire that destroyed the station, apparatus, and all their gear. The quick response of TheFireStore salesman John Major, LION representative Dennis Magill, and countless others from both companies put these volunteer fire company members back in their gear in record time.
The fiery crash began when a dump truck lost control and crashed into the Leithsville Volunteer Fire Company in Northampton County, PA. Just before 1:00 PM on Thursday, May 24, the truck lost its brakes and struck a vehicle, killing the driver. The truck then slammed into the Leithsville Volunteer Fire Company building, igniting a blaze hot enough to melt the building’s steel roof. The station immediately took control of the scene as the fire consumed the vehicles, firehouse, and fire apparatus. After reaching three alarms, help arrived from neighboring Lehigh, Bucks, and Montgomery Counties. Fire companies went into defensive operations as dozens of firefighters set up ladder pipes, ground monitors, and 2.5’s. Tenders arrived from all four counties, filling multiple port-a-tanks at the scene and assisting with nursing operations behind the fire building. Heavy equipment started to pull the rear of the building apart so firefighters could gain access to the remaining fire. The departments had the fire under control after about two hours and remained on the scene overnight with extensive overhaul.
At 4:30 PM Thursday, the chief of the Leithsville Volunteer Fire Company placed a call to John Major at TheFireStore. Many of the Leithsville firefighters lost all their gear as their station burned and would need new equipment. John arrived on scene at 6:00 PM with sizing sets of boots and turnout gear—while firefighting operations were still going on. John quickly setup in the banquet hall next door and started sizing firefighters as they came in for a break and refreshments. Morale was grim as brave first responders watched their firehouse engulfed in flames and discovered a car and its driver wedged into the building that had been hidden by the blaze. The firefighters thanked John and TheFireStore for being there and responding so quickly. Still at the scene, John contacted Dennis Magill at LION to get the needed LION 24 replacement gear into their system for production.
Leithsville Volunteer Fire Company’s order of helmets, boots, gloves, hoods, flashlights, and PASS devices were all in stock at TheFireStore. By 10:00 AM the next morning the company’s replacement gear left TheFireStore’s headquarters in route to the Leithsville Volunteer Fire Company.
The men of the Leithsville Volunteer Fire Company are very grateful for the outstanding service they received. Their replacement turnout gear was in stock and on its way in less than 24 hours, a feat only made possible by TheFireStore and Witmer Public Safety Group, Inc. with the help of the great people at LION, specifically Dennis Magill.
